Hello world,
I’m peeking out from under my rock to deliver on a promise that I made lo so many months ago: THE CURL VIDEO is finally here!
This is a walkthrough of my recent hair appointment with the one and only April Kayganich. I cannot say enough good things about April and how much she’s improved my hair (and my life!) — she’s truly taught me everything essential about living with and caring for my curly hair. Crucially, she’s also taught me to embrace the frizz!
You, too, can book a cut with @_thehalfrican herself. April’s based in L.A. but she travels all over the country regularly! Sign up for her email list today to receive word when she’s headed your way.
Here’s the rundown of the Hairstory products that April uses in the video:
April and I hope this helps answer some of your burning/pressing/dire/urgent (lol) curl questions!!! Have more? Book your appointment with April here. ✨ Her DMs are open, too.
Thanks for reading and watching. I’ll now return to hiding under my rock, but it’s been great to be out here in the sun with you for a hot minute. I may pop back out from time to time and while this interior time continues for me, the subscriptions will remain free.
A couple more things:
Down here in my hermit hole, I’ve very much been enjoying using Rec League, an app for sharing the things we love. And while there are plenty of things you’ll see on there that you’ll want to buy, there are also many, many inspiring things you’ll see that you’ll want to do, read, listen to, and make. It’s also a generally warm, positive internet place, which as we all know is about as common as Valhalla.
And, if you’d like to join me back here on Substack next Monday, August 17th at 9am Pacific/ 12pm Eastern time, I’ll be in conversation with the one and only Priya Parker about community, gathering and conflict. Set an alert and follow Priya if you’d like to join us!
Take care, everyone! And eat all the watermelon and tomatoes you can this month!
xoxo,
Samin

From one curly Cal English major and food fiend to another, thank you! I’m nearly 58 and finally (finally!) figuring how to handle my curls. This tutorial was super helpful.
April has been my hairdresser for years and she’s a total unicorn. She gives amazing cuts that grow out so well!
